Forum Maintenance – COMPLETE

Update 6 – 7/17/2009 @ 10:00 PM EST:
Forums are now back up! Access them here.

Update 5 – 7/17/2009 @ 7:20 PM EST:
Good news! I’ve received the database and associated files/instructions from freeforums.org. I’m going to go ahead and get started. Looks like I need to start with installing phpbb 3.04 first, then upgrade to 3.05 after doing a few other steps. I’ll post more as I go. Thanks!

Update 4 – 7/17/2009 @ 2:20 PM EST:
Sent an e-mail to the admins for freeforums.org to see if I could get a status update on when we will receive our database. Will provide updates here once I have more info.

Update 3 – 7/17/2009 @ 9:30 AM EST:
No updates to report at this time.

Update 2 – 7/16/2009 @ 7:30 PM EST:
Still waiting on freeforums.org to deliver the database backup. I’ve done about all the prep work I can on the back end so I can just grab the backup, slam it into place, and reactivate the forums. Cross your fingers for getting the backup file on Friday. Also – identified the “Random Tagline Generator” was giving us problems and causing some slowdowns. Looks like I had too many random taglines in there. After I disabled it, trimmed the number of taglines, and re-enabled it it seemed to run OK.

Update 1 – 7/16/2009 @ 11:00 AM EST:
Received an e-mail from freeforums.org customer support yesterday afternoon around 3PM  indicating they had received our request and they would get our database to us as soon as possible. As of this morning we still have not received it. They indicate it takes 1 to 3 days to work through their normal requests of this type, so this wait time should be considered normal.

We’ve also experienced some slow response times with the ironworks-gaming.com domain and inability to log into the wordpress dashboard. I narrowed down the problem to a janky plugin and disabled it. Things seem to be getting somewhat back to normal now.

Original Post:
We had communicated that our forums were going to be migrated starting tonight at midnight, but we had to start early due to freeforums.org getting hit with a Denial-of-Service attack. Effective immediately, we’ve taken our old forums offline and have started the process to upgrade to the new forums. We will be offline for the next 24 to 72 hours as we move our data to the new forums and enable them.

Watch this space for updates. Thanks for your patience!

Hoj can you email me regarding the faulty plugin?

  6. Hojimoto says:

No need. It was the random tagline generator plugin. I put too many random taglines in and it was hogging resources. :(

After I renamed the plugin folder, I was able to get right into the dashboard and clean things up. lol

  7. Kins :D says:

k I was hoping it wasn’t one of the other ones.
